Girolamo Frescobaldi (1583-1643) – Canzon Seconda. Violino solo, over Cornetto from “Il primo libro delle canzoni… in Roma appresso Gio. Battista Robletti, 1628”

Enjoy Seicento Stravagante’s video of Girolamo Frescobaldi’s Canzon Seconda, performed on baroque cornett and authentic Italian organ built by Ennio Bonifazi on 1638, just 10 years later the publication of Frescobaldi’s famous sonatas collection. This incredible early baroque organ is located in the beautiful village of Sant’Oreste sul monte Soratte, near Rome, and matches perfectly the robust yet flexible tone of the baroque cornetto. In the baroque period it was common practice to play instrumental pieces both on cornetto or violin, often with florid ornaments over the written part.

Organ by Ennio Bonifazi, 1638, restoration by Giuseppe Ponzani. Pitch 410Hz
